There are many common mistakes most internet marketers make that lead to there failure. Some of us have made most of these mistakes ourselves and ought to have learned from them. When discussing the reasons internet marketers fail, we need to understand that it’s not all business in the internet marketing world that does fail.
If it comes to starting any business, whether it be learning a new hobby or starting an online business, we all have to start at ground zero. We all have to start at the very beginning of the very same place. Granted, we each bring different skills and backgrounds into the mix, but for the most part, we are all on equal footing at the starting line.
Since this is the case, then we really have to ponder why is it only a choice few go on to succeed, while most people don’t. Just what are the reasons why most internet marketers fail? This is the core question that has to be answered if you want to fully understand Internet marketing and how it works.
Reasons Internet Marketers Fails
While there are many reasons that Internet marketers fail, if you are sure you want to start a business online, you really have to understand what you want to do. The ones listed below are probably the most common.
1. Failure to Plan.
People think they can start a website and just somehow make it happen. That is not true with internet marketing or any other business venture. You can have a lot of great goals, but if you don’t have a plan of how to achieve them you never will.
2. Not Working on their Daily Internet Business.
If you owned a brick and mortar business you wouldn’t only work on it once a week. You have to be dedicated to making your business successful, and it is not always easy. If you want to have a full-time income from internet marketing you have to understand handwork is required and be willing to do that hard work.
3. Making Goals to Big to Achieve.
We have done this too, and we felt like we were failing when really the goals we set were unrealistic. The key is to remember you can be very successful in internet marketing, but you need to have lofty, yet achievable goals. There are a lot of people that have made a great income from internet marketing and you are probably a lot like them. The main difference being they have put tons of handwork into their business to get it where it is today. Anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.
4. Lack of Knowledge.
This doesn’t mean you should wait to know everything about internet marketing, but you should know a decent amount. You wouldn’t be a good footballer without stadiums, so make sure you are learning about internet marketing and putting clubs in your bag. However, we don’t want you to wait forever to get started. You don’t need to have a Ph.D. in internet marketing to be successful, but you do need to at least know the basics.
5. Lack Of Time And Resources.
Another major reason why many internet marketers fail is that they simply can’t afford the time to learn and build their online business. Most people just can’t stop everything and work full time online because they have bills to pay and families to support. It may take months, probably years, before you can build up a successful online business that gives you a comfortable living. The average person just doesn’t have the time or the resources to spend months learning how all this works.
Keep in mind, getting a business or website going is probably the most inexpensive way to start your business. Domains are cheap. Web hosting is cheap. Web design is cheap if you can do it yourself… Compared to starting a business in the “real” world, creating an online business will only cost a fraction of the normal expenses connected with starting a business. But the main problem is having the resources to pay your living expenses until your online business is profitable. Many newbies internet marketers don’t have these resources and the main complaint from these marketers.
One solution is to work as internet marketers in your spare time and gradually build up your business until you can afford to do it full time. It will obviously take longer but you can still get to the same end goal.
6. Lack Of Necessary Skills.
Actually, you don’t need many skills to succeed online. However, one of the major skills you must have or you must learn is communication. You must learn how to communicate. The web is all about communicating your points to your visitors or viewers so you must acquire good communication skills.
It really helps your marketing if you are a good writer because you can easily get your points across with written text or copy on your site. Writing skills can be learned but many beginning marketers don’t fully understand how important their writing skills will be to their success. You must be able to communicate on your site, in your newsletters, with your customers… might sound a bit obvious but you would be surprised at how many internet marketers lack this simple, yet necessary skill.
But don’t fret, because once upon a time, the written word was king online – but not anymore. Videos are rapidly taking the place of the printed word so anyone with a camera can now be a success online. Of course, you still need good communication skills even using videos, but many marketers have found this is a much easier way to communicate information about their site or product.
You have to have some technical skills, some marketing skills, communication skills and you have to keep up with the warp speed changes of the internet.
This one’s equally common, especially for people who are either members of an online marketing forum or those who are on a lot of mailing lists of prominent Internet marketers. There are always new products that come along that claim to show you the secret of success and some people seemingly buy them all without ever putting any of them to work. It’s not that they don’t intend to, it’s that they’re too distracted by today’s new “must-have” product to put the one they bought just yesterday to use. In the end, you wind up with a hard drive full of expensive books and software products and you have nothing to show for it because you never got around to doing anything.
8. Lack of Patience.
This’s one of the major reasons most internet marketers fail. Everyone wants quick results anytime they engage in any online work. You’re fighting the search engines on this one; while they used to accept a huge Website appearing overnight and give it the same credibility as one that’s been around for years, that no longer happens. It takes time to build a business, see it gain credibility from the search engines, and see it succeed.
If you have a big budget, you can spend a lot of money on pay per click advertising, but even that requires patience, as most advertising campaigns don’t work without a lot of fine-tuning and spending of money. When you decide to engage in any kind of online business, you simply have to accept that it’s likely going to take quite a bit of time to become successful. You can fine-tune it in the meantime and add more content and do things to improve it, but success isn’t going to be instant. The sooner you realize that the better off you’ll be.
9. Traffic Generation.
Traffic remains is the foundation of any online business success and has become the single biggest problem for Internet marketers. Your best ideas or Website are going to be ignored if you don’t have visitors to your site. The easiest way to get traffic coming to you is to use good search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, but these are tedious and frankly, not a lot of fun. You’ll also have to spend time getting links to your site from elsewhere, and perhaps spend some time building a page on Facebook or some other social media site.
It isn’t fun, and it is work, but working on traffic is the part of the job that really matters. If you’re going to jump into the make money online game, you’re going to have to accept that you’re going to spend a lot of time trying to get traffic to your site. It is what it is; get used to it.
Without customers (traffic), a business cannot exist. Learning how to generate traffic and converting that traffic to customers will eventually place you and your business in the winner’s circle. Not being able to generate traffic is a sure way to end a potentially lucrative online business.
The key to success is to work and experience. The experience you gain only by working, and for working is necessary to stay motivated. We all get to the point when we get bored with our work and we meet the demotivation and stop working efficiently. We must keep ourselves focused and motivated in order to generate success and high-quality content.
To stay the course when times get rough is the difference between people who are successful and those who are not. Being able to overcome the struggles of starting any new business, whether online or offline is the hallmark of a successful entrepreneur. The key here is not to listen to others who do not support your efforts.
Find other like-minded folks who understand that success for you means having the support to make sacrifices now so that down the road, the fruit of your labor was well worth it. The recipe for success in internet marketing is a very individual set of ingredients. Sure, there are some solid, fundamental truths to everyone’s success or failure but, understanding our own unique skill sets will help us get closer to the sweet taste of success sooner.
11. Find the Clues.
You have probably heard the expression, “Success leaves clues.” The interesting thing that internet marketers don’t often pay attention to is that “Failure leaves clues also.” Most people have little knowledge when they are looking to start a business. Have you ever heard anyone say to find someone who has failed and model them? Of course not.
The right thing would be to find someone who has been successful at whatever you want to do and to model them. This sounds really simple, right! Lots of people have bought into the idea that knowledge is power. Wrong! Applied knowledge is power.
Internet marketers have a different set of challenges in front of them than offline business owners do. There are countless numbers of tools, systems, software and almost always all these tools don’t come under one roof so you have to strategically put them all together in a system that you can manage.
